This music collective is formed by Mateusz and Agnieszka Niwińscy, together with musicians collaborating with them - Justyna Piernik, Jakub Mielcarek and Iga Wasilewska.
For many years, the band has been active on IN CRUDO scene, performing Polish folk music, cultivating local manners and traditional repertoires of selected microregions of Poland. The group cherishes the indigenous style of the old rural music and its sound, arranging, improvising and building on its basis in their own specific way. It is formed by researchers and practitioners of Polish music tradition, searching for native sounds of the Polish village, students of village musicians and singers, initiators and participants of numerous activities aimed at reviving the native musical tradition and experiments on the borderline of other musical genres.
They will visit Ethniesy with their new album titled„Pogłosy”.
The concert based on the new album is a musical journey towards the sources of Polish traditional music, following up the three dimensional meter and tempo rubato permeating the landscapes of central Poland - Mazovia and Kujawy.
It’s a journey into the past, reviving the sound and musical pulse of the old rural musicality. It’s also an encounter with our masters and their work - folk singers and fiddlers born in the early 20th century (such as Zofia Wojnicka from Osięciny, Janina Smagała from Czermno, Waleria Czubak from Błędowo, Józef Ciastek from Czermno, Piotr Figurski from Sanniki, Tomasz Latoszewski from Chąśno).
The band draws from forgotten repertoires of Mazovia and Kujawy to play them again in new arrangements and contexts, in their own musical language expressing what is beautiful and timeless in Polish traditional music. In the programme of this concert, we will hear various types of songs - lyrical, wedding, dance and chants - as well as vigorous instrumental music, mostly kujawiaks and Mazovian obereks, played by: two violins, basolia or double bass and baraban. The band cultivates the native style of old rural music and its sound, improvising and playing the old motifs in their own specific manner.
